2013: Growth, Goals and Gumption!

Wow, what a year it has been. At the start of 2013, I hosted an IgniteGirls Fitness Weekend in Atlanta, where over a dozen ladies flew in to train and experience a weekend of pure inspiration, motivation and self-improvement. I hired guest speakers including: Registered Dietician Dana Casendino, Fitness Competitor and Expert Casey Shipp, and I even had a healthy cooking demo hosted in my kitchen by the incredible Chef Tesia Bunton.

Then in the beginning of Summer, we conquered the free Pavement & Pearls Virtual 5k Run, which over 100 people registered for worldwide! We all trained hard for 8 weeks leading up to our first ever virtual 5k run.. and everyone who participated literally ran the race at exactly the same time, no matter where they were located. We had groups from New Jersey to California to Georgia, and even an IgniteGirl who ran with us on a treadmill since she was stationed in Afghanistan. Talk about being inspired!

New Jersey cross fitters participated too!

Stationed in Afghanistan and still motivated to run with us! Amazing.

At the end of Summer, we went on to do the Sugar Momma Challenge (where we went completely sugar free for 30 days – OMG!), and there were some amazing transformations! The transformation below is from Emily T., who also emailed me a few months later to let me know that this challenge jump started her entire weight loss journey and she even surpassed her pre-pregnancy weight. Her next goal? To build more muscle.

In the Fall, we completed the Halloween Hottie Challenge and we just finished the 12 Days of Fitness workout challenge… among so many other accomplishments! Some of you got married, fell in love, got pregnant, had a baby, got engaged, went to a high school reunion, beat a personal best, broke your weight loss plateau, set a new goal, inspired a friend, encouraged a family member, reached another new goal… It’s been amazing to watch each of you grow into an empowered woman. You have become stronger mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, wives, colleagues, bosses.. and, of course, athletes.

In terms of business, this year was extremely exciting and overwhelming.

With little money, a lot of faith, and a vision to share my knowledge and experience to help you bring out your inner athlete, I even expanded the IgniteGirls team after launching both an apparel line and the new website. Shortly after adding my sister, Krissy, to the team so she could help with apparel inventory, ordering and general billing, I realized I needed some additional help. I reached out to PR extraordinaire, Molly, who has helped me with opportunities such as writing for the Huffington Post. And once the IgniteGirls home office was up and running, I STILL needed even more help. So this Summer, I brought Intern Hannah on board to help with me weekly in the office assisting with blog management, shipping orders, behind the scenes production and content creation. She even helped me plan and organize our amazing IgniteGirls Launch Party this past September.

And my personal life? Well, after our move from Los Angeles at the end of 2012 to Atlanta, I was still getting settled into our new area. Then this Spring Dave and I bought our first house together and now we are expecting a baby boy due April 2014. It’s been a busy year full of growth, new firsts and a promising future. And with a new baby on the way, I have a feeling that 2014 may be just as adventurous as this year has been.

So what’s next? With the new year in full swing, there are even more exciting things ahead for you as an IgniteGirl! For one, you may have noticed that we JUST launched a second tier option to the IgniteGirls+ membership for just $15/month that includes a full training schedule, a packet of workouts to complete every month, educational group calls, community accountability and VIP access to the IgniteGirls private dashboard. You may have also noticed that the limited edition “Spark Your Inner Athlete” sweatshirts will be on pre-sale through January 15th, and that The IgniteGirls Life book, an all-inclusive nutrition guide you can use for life with 120+ pages, is still in steadfast development, set to launch in the next few weeks. In addition, I am excited to start filming some new recipes and workouts for you, so make sure to subscribe to IgniteGirlsTV and our other social media platforms so you don’t miss a beat.

My last announcement for 2013? I made the cover of The Ultimate Guide to Fitness and Weight Loss Magazine! If you get a chance, download a copy and check out my cover story on how I first got started in the fitness industry.

Molly, your note means so much to me! I wouldn’t have been able to do it all without your help, and we are just getting started. Here’s to a new year, with an upcoming book, a growing IgniteGirls community and a future of inspiring women one by one to find their inner athletes. <3
