5 Tips on How to Choose New Year Goals That You Can Upkeep & Shoulders/Back Workout!

Happy Monday, IgniteGirls!

I have to be honest, I am exhausted. Mine and my hubby’s weekends have been filled with a ton of baby prep now that I am about to enter the third trimester, and my Already-Type-A-Personality is in Turbo Nesting mode (poor Dave!). If you saw my post on Facebook on Saturday, you know that I woke up completely overwhelmed with laundry and a million other to-dos, but I decided to restructure my priorities for the day by getting in a great workout at the gym. I did 15 minutes at a moderate speed on the elliptical followed by a shoulders and back routine.

3 Sets of the following:
Incline Front Raises with 10lb DB, 12-15 reps
Rest as needed
Seated Shoulder Press with 20lb DB, 10 reps
Rest as needed
Bent Over Row with 40lb BB, 12 reps
Rest as needed

3 Sets of the following:
Assisted Negative Pull Ups, adjust weight accordingly, 4-5 reps (1 count up, 2-3 counts down for slow release)
Rest as needed
Seated Cable Row with 60lb, 8-10 reps
Rest as needed
Seated Lateral Pull Down, 60lb, 8-10 reps
Rest as needed

I was pretty tired by the end, so I finished my workout with a moderate cool down pace on the elliptical for another 15 minutes, and some stretching of my hips, legs and lower back. Keep in mind, before getting pregnant I was lifting much more weight, so these are MY numbers for what feels comfortable to me now. If you are pregnant, or just starting out, your weights will be relative to your fitness level, and always make sure to get your doctor’s clearance first!

And I ran into IgniteGirls+ Premium Member, Mallori H., and made her show off for the camera while she finished up her killer leg workout. Watch the video on our Instagram! You can do these workouts too by joining our membership program, complete with a weekly training schedule!

After my workout, I got to work making handmade ribbon bowties for the baby shower invites, which I had also previously designed and had printed (thanks to a college degree in design I am able to dream up ideas for IgniteGirls and the like… and make them happen!). I think I burned my fingers about 40 times with the hot glue gun glue, but my hard work paid off and now the invites are ready to be sent out this week! We decided to name our son Peyton Michael. 🙂
