How to avoid getting full-blown sick

Colder days here in the states, also means you are more susceptible to getting sick. However, there are many factors that contribute! It’s not just cold weather than makes you sick, it’s cold weather layered with stress on top of an already weakened immune system. I want to share my get better quick “Keri Kit” that I SWEAR BY to avoid getting full-blown sick. I haven’t been sick in YEARS. YEARS!!!!!!! I don’t even have a regular doctor in Georgia yet and I’ve been living here for two years.

Like you, though, I have my fair share of days where I “feel something coming on.”

You know your body best, so when you feel burned out it’s your body’s way of saying, “Hey! Slow down!” For me, these symptoms are usually a tight, slightly sore throat, exhaustion, headache or all of the above. In addition to using my Keri Kit, I also make it a priority to get some extra zzz’s and re-assess my to-do list. Stress is a big contributor and is almost always the root of the problem for me. The key to the Keri Kit is identifying your subtle symptoms before they become obvious.

Ok, so what’s in this magical Keri Kit? Here is what you’ll need:

  1. Emergen-C Vitamin C (you can actually try a free sample from their site.)
What I do: I like the Original Formula in Tropical flavor. Mix powder with water and drink 1x daily. (Avoid overuse, as it can result in toxic levels.)
What it does: Contains 1,000 mg of vitamin C and other immune supporting antioxidants zinc and manganese, 7 B vitamins to enhance energy naturally. May not decrease frequency of colds, but may decrease the duration in which they last.
Other benefits: Great for replenishing electrolytes post-workout.
Fun fact: Vitamin C is also found naturally in citrus fruits, broccoli and tomatoes.
  2. Amazing Grass Green SuperFood
What I do: I like the Orange Dreamsicle flavor. Mix one scoop or one packet with water and drink 1-2x daily.
What it does: Contains your recommended 5 to 9 daily servings of fruits and vegetables, naturally detoxifies and boosts your immune system and aides in digestion and absorption probiotics and enzymes.
Other benefits: They also make a special immunity blend, but I haven’t used this before. Alkaline green plant foods balance acidic pH levels.
Fun fact: Blend it into a protein shake or fruit smoothie if you don’t like the earthy, grassy taste. Or just chug it back like I do.
  3. Traditional Medicinals Organic Echinacea Plus Tea
What I do: Steep the tea bag in boiled water with a drizzle of local honey and drink 1-3x daily.
What it does: Contains alkylamides, present from the echinacea and echinacea extract, which helps to stimulate the immune system. You may feel a slight tingling on your tongue after drinking the tea.
Other benefits: Studies have shown that echinacea increases the number of white blood cells and boosts the activity of macrophages, a subset of white blood cells.
Fun fact: Echinacea, also called the purple coneflower, was used by Native American tribes long before Western use. And, the IgniteGirls 7-Day Summer Skinny Plan uses a few of the Traditional Medicinals teas to help detox the body. (You can download it from the link at the bottom of this post.)

And there it is! As soon as I start feeling a little under the weather, this is my go-to! I hope it works for you as well as it works for me. There’s never a good time to get sick. And, of course, keep in mind I am not a doctor so these are just recommendations that you should get cleared with your physician. These items are also not meant to cure, treat or diagnose anything and sometimes being sick can require a prescribed medication – if in doubt, go get it checked out. If you are pregnant or breast feeding you should get clearance from your doctor before use.

Here’s to a happy and healthy holiday season ahead,

I love the tips! I use all of those, except for the Grass Green Superfood, I’ll have to try! We have been keeping oranges or clementines in our house constantly since the Fall crazy-cold season!
